Description

Jump into an exciting war between the Winged Crusade and the Landians! Mecho Wars is a turn-based strategy game where you command your troops to expand control and conquer your enemies. Strategically position your troops because each type has its strengths and weaknesses.

Command your troops to conquer structures for your team's benefit. Capture factories to expand maximum army support. To pay for this large army, take-over cities to earn gold from the rich economic hubs. Finally, defeat the enemy by capturing their H.Q. structures.

Included in the game is a rich story-driven single player campaign, a special set of individual challenge maps, and remarkable multi-player support with a single device.

The single player campaign is a story about the rise of the Winged Crusade. The story takes place in a distant land known as the Divination Deserts. This is not your typical desert since there is plenty of water separating land masses. Mecho Wars features a unique day-night cycle where water will freeze overnight. Once inaccessible areas by land troops can be reached in the early hours of the morning.

The day-night cycle isn't used only in the single player campaign. Try facing off against a friend in multi-player. Be amused when you place your troops in the right spots for an overnight ambush!

Like Advanced Wars, but on the iPhone. If you like turn based strategy, you should really look at picking this one up. It’s straight up turn based strategy goodness.

If you enjoyed the strategy and planning of Advanced Wars on you gameboy advanced, check out Mecho Wars. It has mostly everything that you would want and retails for a relatively cheaper price.

If you're into strategy titles and need a fix of Advance Wars, Mecho Wars is the best thing currently out for the Touch and iPhone.

Kotaku.com

Mecho Wars does everything right to suit the iPhone platform. The touch screen controls are well balanced, and compelling gameplay can make for some lengthy struggles over water, land, air and ice. Any game that I can play casually while making pancakes simultaneosly is a winner in my eyes.

Updated Review!

:
Great job on the updates, but some basic things haven't been fixed:
1. In single player, it is still WAY too easy. All you do is flood with infantry and you win the game. It's great that you guys added more maps, but they're ALL THE SAME DIFFICULTY-- way too easy. Please make some makes that give an advantage to the opponent, or makes that make the player that goes first at a disadvantage. Whoever goes first has a major major advantage.
It's a great game, but I have to keep my rating at 4 stars. Even though this game is a lot of fun, it is too easy/unbalanced.

Keep up the good updates and good work!

(My old review is below)

I bought Mecho Wars yesterday and finished it today. What does that mean? 1. It is very addicting. 2. It is very short. Is it worth it? I’ve broken down the game into a comprehensive review below. (Each category is out of five stars *****)

THE UPDATE: (version 1.0.1): It was much needed, but it doesn’t change any of my scores. The updated Landian campaign is the exact same thing as the Winged Crusade campaign—way to easy, and there is no story. Even the new challenge levels will be breeze to beat. There NEEDS to be challenge levels that are actually challenging--i.e. the player starts off at a disadvantage, and has to really fight intelligently to catch up to the computer. I would love to see some maps like this in a future update. I fear, however, that $1 will not be enough to warrant another update like the one we just saw. If an expansion were to be released, I would happily pay an extra $1 for it, if it contained a new terrain (i.e. forest), a few (1-3) new units, and more challenging campaign/challenge levels. MUCH NEEDED, BUT DIDN’T IMPROVE WHAT I THOUGHT IT WOULD. ***

GAMEPLAY: Easy, simple, and slow. Way too easy. I was never at a point where the game was difficult, ever. Make the game more challenging and the extra challenge levels harder! How? By putting the player at a disadvantage at the start (or putting the computer at a head start). This MUST be changed, immediately, because as of now, the game is so easy, it is impossible to loose. Furthermore, there is no story. The player isn’t even a character in the game; he/she’s “Rookie”, and there is no plot. The Winged Crusade want to kill the Landians. Why? Who knows. Does it matter? Maybe, maybe not. It would be nice to see some story development in the future. NO CHALLENGE, NO STORY. *

CONTROLS: This game feels very good. When selecting a base to build more units, if you click one square away, it will sometimes automatically ‘snap’ to the unit builder menu. Sometimes when selecting a unit, it does not work (the unit remains unselected). VERY GOOD WITH A FEW ERRORS. ****

MUSIC: The music was fantastic! Forgetting the $1 tag on the app, this game music could be on a $5-10 game without anyone batting an eye. The melodies were soothing, haunting, and strange. A perfect compliment to the unusual art that fills this game. No complaints here; in fact, I think the game designer should waste no time improving the music for the next update, instead focus only the gameplay. SENSATIONAL MUSIC. *****

VISUAL: I enjoyed all aspects of the art. It was bizarre, strange, yet invigorating. I liked the battle animations, even though the landscapes and battle scenes were both an exact copy of Advanced Wars. ****

COST PER GAMEVALUE RATIO: With this new update, I can’t believe how cheap it is. A great buy for $1. They should make gameplay improvements and hike the price to at least $3. *****

BOTTOM LINE: All the makings of an awesome game, with a few major errors. If you like Advanced Wars-style strategy games, check out Reign first before buying this game. Once Mecho Wars gets some serious gameplay improvements, it will be considered a great iPhone game. ***

Suggestions: I would like to see a purchasable upgrade (for $1) that possibly adds another campaign and creates challenge levels that are actually a challenge. I will update/upgrade my review if a newer, better versions is released.

Whoever goes first wins

:
After playing for a while my friend and I discovered that it's impossible to get the upper hand if you don't go first. This is true of every map we played. Pretty much killed the game for us.

UniWhat?

:
I played plenty of UniWar and already I like this a lot better. Feels very polished. Definitely looking forward to multiplayer.
